A standby referee reports to the field 30 minutes prior to the first games and remains at the field until all crews have checked in healthy and ready to ref. They are usually released shortly after noon if not needed. Pay is $50 if they do not work or actual payment earned if they work in the morning. If they are on standby all morning and needed to work in the afternoon, they will get paid standby rate plus actual rate. Therefore, while one may not be needed to be at the field all day they must be prepared to stay in case they are needed.
