New! Green Uniforms

The USSF authorizes five color jerseys: Gold, Black, Red, Blue, and Green (new in 2008). Joining the previous four colors, Gold, Black, Red, and Blue, the USSF now authorizes a Green Jersey.

In a nutshell, a fifth jersey color, green, is now authorized as is a new design for socks. The new jersey has a wider stripe design and not pinstripes. In the future, vendors will eventually only sell the new uniforms, but the old striping (pin stripes) pattern is still USSF-approved and acceptable to wear during games. In youth and adult amateur games, it is also acceptable for the crew to wear a combination of new and old uniforms.

The MLS is not the USSF and what is worn by USSF referees officiating in the MLS should not be taken as the standard for all USSF referees.

The old stripe color referee shirts (blue, red, black, and gold) are still approved by the Federation for all matches. So are the socks (3 stripes as well as the logo socks).  The key is that all the officials should be dressed uniformly to represent their role they play as match officials. The emphasis is on uniformity of shirt colors and socks style worn by all the officials in matches and not on the style stripe of the shirt or shorts.

Bottom line: Do NOT run out and replace all your jerseys with new-style jerseys unless you were going to replace them anyhow as they were worn or you have changed sizes.
