New Referee Class (Grade 9) Aug 9, 10, 11

NEW REFEREE CLASS GRADE 9

The dates are are August 9-11, 2010.

Mon Aug 9  6-9:30p   Occoquan Room

Tue Aug 10  6-9:30p   Powell’s Creek Room
Thu Aug 11  6-9:30p   Powell’s Creek Room

The clinic will be held at the Prince William County McCoart Building, 1 County Complex Ct., Woodbridge VA 22192. It is located at the entrance to the baseball stadium.

While there is no age limit set by USSF to become a referee, Virginia Child Labor Law requires refs be at least 12 years of age. Our recommendation for a New-8 course is at least 14 years of age. A better option for young refs is a Grade 9 course. The Grade 9 clinic is half as long and half as in depth as the Grade 8 clinic (yes, the lower number is a higher referee grade). Referees who attend and pass this clinic will be certified as a Recreational Referee. They will be limited in their assignments to games at U14 and younger.

This is perfect for younger referees as most intelligent assignors will not use 13 year old refs on U19 games. The intent of the Grade 9 course is to get new referees on the field, on younger recreational level games. If they like it, they can upgrade later to Grade 8 to referee higher level matches.

MATERIALS FOR THE CLASS

You will need to bring:
Pencil or pen, perhaps a highlighter
Notepad

We will be supplying you with the following documents:
The Laws of the Game Made Easy
Guide to Procedures
Referee Administrative Handbook

You should not bring:

A cell phone to use in class. Using cell phones and text messaging in class is not permitted. We will have breaks at approximately every 90 minutes where one can leave to check messages. If you cannot go 90 minutes without checking messages you should rethink your desire to become a referee.

BREAKS

Despite what is normally an overwhelming presence of young people in class, the instructors tend to treat this as adult education. While we generally will have a break halfway through the evening sessions, it is expected that one if must leave they will do so quietly. No hall pass is necessary.

DRESS

Dress for this referee clinic is casual.

We will need your cooperation by being on time to class and being quiet during instructional time.
