*This session will begin at 6:00p in the lawn next to the McCoart Bldg. When you enter the complex off the Parkway, turn left to go to the McCoart Bldg. There is a large open grass area next to the parking lot. Be in comfortable clothes and be ready to move reasonably well. Tennis/running or turf shoes recommended. You do not need cleats. At 6:45 p.m. we will move to Room 107 in the Development Services Bldg.
Note also, Thursday's session will start at 6:30p, and not 6:00p, as previously listed.
This is a clinic to become a New Grade 9 referee. While there is no age limit set by USSF to become a referee, Virginia Child Labor Law requires refs be at least 12 years of age. Our recommendation for a New-8 course is at least 14 years of age so this is a perfect option for young refs or refs who aren’t quite sure they want to start at a Grade 8 level. This is also a great option for parents seeking to satisfy the STAR requirements for NCSL or WAGS. Unlike a Grade 12, Assistant Referee, a Grade 9 is a full referee, able to be in the middle or assist on the line on competitive games up through U14s, See our section on Becoming a Referee.
STATUS: FULL. To be placed on a wait list contact Barry@pwsra.org.
If you selected the Bring Check to Class option, make the check payable to STATE REFEREE PROGRAM in the amount of $65. Send it to:

As this class is full and will have a wait list, checks must be received by August 6 to hold your place in class.
MATERIALS FOR THE CLASS
You will need to bring:
Pencil or pen, perhaps a highlighter
Notepad
We will be supplying you with the following documents:
Laws of the Game Made Easy
Offside Made Easy
Guide to Procedures
Referee Administrative Handbook
You should not bring:
A cell phone for use in class. Using cell phones and text messaging in class is not permitted. We will have breaks at approximately every 90 minutes where one can leave to check messages. If you cannot go 90 minutes without checking messages you should rethink your desire to become a referee.
BREAKS
Despite what is normally an overwhelming presence of young people in class, the instructors tend to treat this as adult education. While we generally will have a break halfway through the morning and halfway through the afternoon sessions, it is expected that one if must leave they will do so quietly. No hall pass is necessary. All day sessions will have a lunch break as well.
DRESS
Dress for this referee clinic is casual.
We will need your cooperation by being on time to class and being quiet during instructional time.
