Application Process OPEN for Spring 2012

We want to see our referees, in particular, our young referees, succeed. We believe it is important to their growth to attend our pre-season meeting so we can best determine where and how to assist them. It is in the best interest of the new referee that we insure that they are properly trained, above and beyond the certification course. Our experience is that referees who do not learn our assigning process nor show any interest in receiving feedback to advance become frustrated and soon leave. We gladly welcomed 61 new referees for in 2011.

We purposely do not take on more referees than we can handle. We want every new referee to feel that they are receiving personal attention so they can be successful.

NOTE: NEW Referee meeting at the McCoart Building, 1 County Complex, Woodbridge VA on Wednesday March 21 or Monday April 9, 2012, at 7:00 p.m.  New referees must attend one of the meetings.

Joining PWSRA

If you want to referee with PWSRA you must first become a referee. If you are not a certified referee, please read our section on Becoming a Referee. Once you have been certified, which means attended and passed a new referee course, then contact PWSRA to join.

We provide referees for PWSI’s recreational matches U08 through U12 and for the U14, U16, and U19 teams that play in the Suburban Friendship League. We also provide referees for PWSI’s Old Dominion Soccer League matches and Virginia Club Champions League matches. If you want to referee these matches you need to become a member of PWSRA.

We do not assign PWSI’s travel games for NCSL and WAGS. To officiate those matches one must contact a contracted assignor who handles these games. In addition, we are not contracted to assign for PWSI’s tournaments. If you are interested in working one of the tournaments, please follow the tournament link at PWSI’s website for more information.

Before you join consider this: PWSRA uses a state-of-the-art Internet-based assigning program for game offers. Therefore, referees must have Internet and email access, be able to check email messages at least once every three days, be responsible in accepting and reporting to assignments in a timely manner, and file game reports online immediately after a match. Young referees must have parental support to help them succeed. If you believe you have what it takes to be successful as a referee, please complete our:

PWSRA Referee Application Form

Are You an Active Member of PWSRA?
Referees who are active members of PWSRA have accounts in the Arbiter.net. Referees who fail to accept any games over two seasons will have the Arbiter license inactivated so it can be transferred to another official. The test is simple. If you can log into the Arbiter under the Prince William Soccer Referee Association - you're an active member. If not, contact the assignor.
