FREDERICKSBURG, VIRGINIA - The Virginia Youth Soccer Association has selected Colin O'Connor as the 2016 Young Male Referee of the Year.
Colin starting playing soccer at age four and at 12 years of age, certified as a Grade 8 referee. He quickly progressed through recreation assignments and moved into competitive assignments with various travel leagues in Northern Virginia. He officiated at the Annandale Premier Cup and WAGS Tournaments and received four invitations to referee State Cup Finals.
Colin officiated at the Girls ODP Camp in Rhode Island, officiated in Region I Championships in West Virginia, Region I President's Cup in Pennsylvania, and the President's Cup Finals in Kansas City. At age 17 he met the requirements to upgrade to a Grade 7 referee.
Colin is a sophomore at Rensselear Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, New York, majoring in Chemical Engineering. He is the son of Chris and Debbie (also a referee), O'Connor.
Colin is PWSRA's seventh winner of VYSA's Young Referee of the Year Award and this marks the eighth award overall.
