Marty Cox is the PWSRA Treasurer. He has extensive background in finances having been always selected to be "banker" when playing Monopoly with his brothers. He is originally from the Steel City (Pittsburgh) but has lived in Manassas since 1972.
He is so embarrassed he didn't think of this first but still wants to use the line that he became a soccer referee was to wear the Black and Gold (Steelers team colors). He figured that soccer referee's must all be Steeler fans and therefore good people in general! Another reason was his daughter Sara, who plays for the '89 Courage White travel team. Sara got her Grade 8 referee certification when she was 13 and since Marty had to drive her to class and assignments, he took the class and began his refereeing experience. Sara dropped out of reffing after 2-3 seasons and Marty has kept with it to date.
Marty also figured that since he had done his fair share of yelling at referee's over the years as a player and "soccer dad," he should go out there and take it some hisself! He played soccer in Manassas as a youth and was sentoff in the first half of his first match at 15 years of age and asked the referee "what are you going to do, pin that on me or something?" Marty works WAGS and NCSL games but really enjoys working with the referees of PWSRA most of all!
