Jim Griffin

Jim Griffin has been involved in Virginia youth soccer since the late ’80s when his children began to play.  Over the years he held various positions within PWSI as coach (State "D" license), Board member, WAGS club rep, Rules and Discipline committee chairman and parent-volunteer.

Jim is one of the newest State Referees in Virginia. His story is one of perseverance and inspiration. He began refereeing in his late 40s with his children, Chris and Lauren. They eventually tired of refereeing but Jim continued and set his goal to try for State Referee. In late 2005 he was set to move from Grade 7 to Grade 6 but had a set back. At first he resigned himself to staying a Grade 7 but then decided to continue pursuing his State badge. It is very difficult to become a State referee after age 50 but Jim went back and made that his goal for 2007. He achieved that goal.

For the over 50 crowd, Jim is an inspiration that with hard work one can achieve that State badge.

Jim lives with his wife, Sharon, have been residents of Prince William County since 1981 and currently live in Woodbridge.  Lauren is a junior at East Carolina University. Chris is married and he and his wife have a son. Jim and Sharon enjoy being Skyler's grandparents.

Jim also runs Badger Sports, a Score referee supplier.
